Cutting the Cord – Postlog

CuttingCord

ShareCutting the Cord – The First Week It’s been a week since we “Cut the Cord”. What’s changed?  We’ve watched the normal ABC, CBS & NBC content as well as a little from FOX.  We’ve also started streaming Internet content including HGTV & ESPN3 (From Kylo.tv), and misc. shows from Netflix and from Boxee.  Previously we used the Wii for Netflix, but using Boxee simplifies … Continue reading

Cutting The Cord – Almost There

loop

ShareI cancelled Directv today.  They were so sad.  They tried to entice me with getting less so I could pay less.  Maybe throw in some free pay TV.  No thanks, I politely responded. Today I started to fine tune the Zino and SageTV HD300.  Tomorrow The Loop arrives, hopefully the tool which simplifies navigating the Internet.  The loop is a mouse which doesn’t require a “mouse pad”. … Continue reading

You may recall my objectives from my first post on this subject: Multi-room viewing of High Definition (HD) channels Ability to record multiple programs at … Continue reading

CuttingCord

ShareI talked a bit last time about the things to consider when buying an antenna.  While the technical details of how to choose an antenna are many, there were only few that ended up playing a role in my decision, repeating them from my last post, they are: Distance to the towers – how big of an antenna do you need? Direction of the towers … Continue reading

Cutting the Cord – TV on the Cheap – Part 1 Introduction and Antenna

ShareI introduced my new adventure in my last blog. My DIRECTV subscription expires in January and I’ve been looking into dropping them in favor of Over The Air (OTA) and Internet streaming to get my TV fix. If plans go as I hope, after hardware investments, I will save about $500 in 2011 and over $1300 in 2012. Not only will I save money but … Continue reading
